In the Old Testament, we are told that Joshua had twelve stones carried from the River Jordan and then set them up as a monument saying, "That this may be a sign among you that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?" (Joshua, 4:6).

The setting up of stones as a monument continues to this day.  The Celtic word for such a monument is cairn.

The children of Ernest and Norah Huggins have built a cairn to their memory with the stones that they gave us.  We have always treasured the love and the learning that they gave us, but since their passing, we appreciate even more those things they endured without mention or complaint, their values which we inculcated.  Those little sayings that spring from our mouths and cause us to laugh because we realize that we sound exactly as they did.

The little things we do, we do from habit, because we watched them do it for most of our lives.  How we sometimes find ourselves in situations and respond wisely, understanding now why Mom and Dad said, did, or reacted in certain ways when they faced similar challenges.

These cherished recollections are the stones with which we build our mental cairn to their memory.  May this site assist us in honoring them and help us share with others who they were, and who we are.
